1997

The Forum begins

Local workers and a councillor bring people together to explore funding for children’s activities and connect community groups.

2000

Opening up digital skills

A UK Online grant creates an ICT centre at Stile Common Infant School, helping local people gain qualifications and move into work.

2004

Newsome Next Generation

The five-year healthy living programme begins and supports facilities, health walks, savings, cook-and-eat sessions and much more.

2008

Protecting Newsome Mill

Years of community campaigning help Newsome Mill gain listed status, protecting an important part of local heritage.

2010

Play Day starts

The first National Play Day is held in Ashenhurst and becomes a much-loved annual event for local families.

2017

Celebrating 20 years

Around 50 local groups and activities come together at a special celebration of volunteering across Newsome Ward.

2020

Finding new ways to connect

During Covid restrictions volunteers support local information, activity packs, treasure hunts and a Santa drive-through.

2023

A lasting local commitment

The Forum continues maintaining public defibrillators, supporting schools and helping community activity reach people locally.
